Experience Patagonia in a more personal way:

Learn about sheep farming, holistic management, tourism and horses while living on a Patagonian estancia.

Estancia La Península runs a volunteer programme that offers a unique experience in a Patagonian estancia. You will learn about local Patagonian culture, farming, horses and tourism, plus improve your Spanish. The programme starts from September to May, September and May are months dedicated to only farming related activities and October to April are dedicated to mostly tourism activities, but also farming activities depending on the specific month.

We offer a volunteer programme of minimum 1-month where you will be working in various areas like

  • Help the baqueano with the horses e.g. put on the equipment and assist with the horseback riding activity
  • Help in the staff house with the food preparation
  • Assist in the estancia when we have visitors with serving food, taking out the plates and clean afterwards
  • Constructing new paths in the property and maintenance of fences
  • Gardening
  • Help with the cattle and sheep and feed the animals (dogs and chickens)
  • Other tasks related to farming and tourism

English teacher programme: You can also apply for the English teaching programme. Then teaching English will be your main task, but you are more than welcome to help with other tasks if you want to! You will have time to prepare the classes and together with the staff, you make a plan for when they do their classes and what their goals are according to their level. A great way to get teaching experience and live an authentic Patagonian farming experience living together with the staff and other volunteers.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=”801″ img_size=”1600×900″ alignment=”center”][vc_empty_space][vc_custom_heading text=”Comments from previous volunteers” font_container=”tag:h2|font_size:30px|text_align:left|color:%23825534|line_height:36px” google_fonts=”font_family:Alice%3Aregular|font_style:400%20regular%3A400%3Anormal” css=”.vc_custom_1557249409868{margin-bottom: 23px !important;}”][vc_column_text]

Janine, Mexico:
“As a volunteer at La Peninsula, you will get to experience Patagonia at its best while contributing with your knowledge and experience. I came as a volunteer to teach English to the staff. Some of them needed to practice their fluency, others to polish small mistakes and few of them had to learn the basics. Food and accommodation were provided along with loads of love from the dogs, horses, sheep and of course all the great people from the staff”.

During my free time, I had the chance to go trail running, went on beautiful hikes, helped in the kitchen and with the horses. I must say, as a volunteer you are lucky enough to learn from the locals and their culture while living in paradise”

Anna, United States:
“I volunteered at Estancia la Peninsula from October-November of 2018. I was their first volunteer from the United States. It is hard to put into words how amazing the experience was. The views were absolutely stunning and just to be able to breathe in that clean Patagonia air was incredible. I came knowing very little Spanish, and every person that worked there was warm, patient, and made me feel so welcome. My first few weeks I was in charge of the pregnant ewes. When a sheep had her babies, I would take them into the barn for a few days to keep warm and help them bond.

While it was hard work, I loved every minute of it. I was also in charge of feeding the puppies and a baby cow, and a baby lamb all who had lost their mother after they were born.  Feeding all the babies was my favourite task. Estancia la Peninsula is such a special place and there is an adventure at every turn. It was the best decision of my life to volunteer there, and no matter what your background is, you will have an unforgettable experience”.

We can receive up to 4 volunteers per month

We provide with food and accommodation during the stay (on the estancia)

11-4 working period (11 days working and 4 days off)

In the months of farming-related work, September and May, you will rotate between various estancias helping with the sheep and cows. We will provide accommodation and food depending on where you will be working. Most of the work will be outside and the work and off period will be different according to the need in each estancia. It is a very interesting way to learn more about sheep -and cattle farming in Patagonia and you will get some real hands-on experience.

We get a lot of requests about working only with the horses. It is important to mention that our horses live outside freely before and after end of activities so there are not so much work related to the horses. It will mainly be herding (if you have experience), putting on saddles etc. and help the guide with the horseback riding with tourists.

Are you interested or do you have any additional questions, please write us an e-mail where you tell a little bit about yourself, where you are from, your expectations and which month you would be available to come and stay here.
