Traine & Volunteering
Come and share some time with us! … We love having volunteers, have welcomed them since the beginning of our tourism operations and have learned that it is a great combination of both ways learning.
Check our different “programs” to see which fits into your plans, the main variations are the daily tasks and the minimum times required.
Based on Estancia La Peninsula, this is a hands on program with fix starting and finishing dates so we can organize schedules better. The program is organized in 2 shifts of 11 days in – 4 days out. You must go out of the estancia on your days out.
On your days IN there will be one more volunteer at the estancia and you will take turns doing each a “day of work”. The two days of work go like this:
Horse Rides Assistant:
– Get up as early as eneeded and go with the gaucho to get the horses for the day.
– help catch the horses and saddle up for the rides of the day
– Go in the rides assisting the gaucho and guides
– Unsaddle the horses and take them to their paddock, clean stables, etc. Helping the riding staff.
*even if you are not confortable riding you will be doing this day of work in order to learn. If you are really not confortable riding we might tell you not to come in the morning untill you get better at riding since the bringing of the herd can get a bit fast.
General Service Assistant:
– It helps in the morning and midday during the peak service times to communicate with guests and clean up after service.
– In the afternoon help with close out of the day by feeding chickens, dogs, cleaning kennels and shearing shed, etc.
You have to be willing to sleep in tents, old houses, vans, etc. We will teach you a lot of the outdoor world and how to be comfortable in these situations since that is what we do a lot.
In general we ask to send a video CV to our email and then we review all the applications that we got for the season around april-may. By June 1st we will give you an aswer to coordinate. Try to put your ideal time to come (Spring/Summer or Summer-Fall). Remember the seasons are from the southern hemisphere.
If you have a special skill that you think is valuable to us, let us know. This is a new program that is born because of some conversations with previous volunteers. Examples of specialties are biologist or conservation and research expert, carpenter, mason or any building specialty, chainsaw, photographer or videographer, etc.
If this is your case we can agree to make a special program, depending on the date we can create a project specifically for you, where you helps us by putting your skill to use, imagine the ranching trainee program but focused on a particular skill. Do not imagine yourself doing always your specialty, probably you will be wondering around with us but we will always try to find something that fits your specialty.
