Traine & Volunteering

Come and share some time with us! … We love having volunteers, have welcomed them since the beginning of our tourism operations and have learned that it is a great combination of both ways learning.

Do not expect a super disciplined program, you come live with us and you will live our struggles and successes, sometimes there will be problems that we will solve between all of us and sometimes it is time to celebrate and enjoy the good days. We have had dozens of volunteers over time and have learned from each of them on how to have a better volunteering program.

Check our different “programs” to see which fits into your plans, the main variations are the daily tasks and the minimum times required.

What to Bring - Packing List

You need basic clothing, the more layers you have available the better, something waterproof it is highly recommendable and some comfortable shoes, hiking shoes are great for the everyday chores. If you can bring boots that are great for riding, but hiking shoes with half chaps (that we provide) works great. Make sure you have at least a set of clothing that you can get damaged or very dirty, or even better you can bring your overalls to protect your clothing for certain chores.

All your personal hygiene products you must bring, there is always clothing detergent in the house that is available to you, Bring your towel as well.

Must have a waterproof duffel bag or a backpack where you can fit your stuff for moving around and a daypack where you can put more delicate stuff that does not use that much space so you can bring it inside the car, etc. Also, must have at least the following gear:

– FOOTWEAR: Rubber boots for work, trekking or outdoor shoes for daily chores and some kind of home shoes like crocs or toms or similar.

– OUTER SHELL: Goretex or similar jacket and pants to be able to stay outside all day in a rainy day and we also advise a work overall that will help you keep warm and also protect your clothing.

– SUN / COLD PROTECTION: We like to always have an insulated shell (down jacket or insulated jacket) to wear when we come into camp or for the end of the day to have something warm to wear. We also always carry some kind of ear protection (hat) and gloves (1 workwear and 1 hiking kind). Don’t forget your sunglasses and a sun protection hat too, it gets pretty intense sometimes.

– ACCESSORIES: You want to have some kind of knife or multitool to be able to open cans, cut a small rope, etc. You need to have a flashlight too, hopefully rechargeable ones and we highly advise a battery bank for your phone and flashlight and a small individual thermos in case you want to take some hot water, tea or soup for the day. Have a little bag with your bathroom toiletries and a towel too.

– SLEEPING: You need a sleeping bag, if you are coming in spring and autumn, make sure to have a warm one or add a liner and we usually have some kind of mattress or insulated pads but I always like to carry my own thermarest or inflatable pad to put above anything that we get for the night and that makes a good bed anywhere.

If you cannot bring everything it is ok, this is the recommended list. You might struggle a bit more, but at least you will learn for future travels.
